Shingle Roofs are those types of roofs that contain separate overlapping elements. Those overlapping elements are naturally flat and come in a rectangular shape laid at the bottom of the roof’s edge. The rafters hold shingle roofs; these rafters are made from different materials like wood, metal, plastic, slate, and other composite materials like asphalt shingles and fiber cement. Though this roofing pattern is used globally, there are places in it that dominate, e.g., Asia, the United States, and Europe. One other thing with this shingle roof is that it deteriorates faster; the reason is that they repel water faster than wall shingles.
In the US, for example, fiberglass-based asphalt shingles are the commonest roofing material for roofing. In Europe, these same shingles are called tile strips (or bitumen roof in most cases) and are very common as well, probably because they ate easier to install.
Again, fiberglass-based asphalt shingles roofs are cheaper than their counterparts and can last up to 60 years, while you can still recycle. It can still come in different colors and styles, giving you that wild option to choose from.

The fiberglass asphalt shingles’ protective mechanism comes with long-chain petroleum hydrocarbons, while the wood shingles are guarded by natural that comes in cellulose structure. These protective features can be vulnerable a time, as time goes on, while under the hot sun, the oil can melt away, and when it rains, it gradually washes the oils away from the shingles. During this rainy period, water from the rain is directed along the complex rooflines, and such a situation might end up causing erosion to more than one area. The loss of oil on those asphalt shingle fibers can make it shrink, and the wood shingles rot, thereby exposing the nail heads located under the shingles. If the nails are exposed, water descending the roof may seep into the structure round the shank, thus, causing rot on the roofing materials. This situation can cause moisture damage to both the paint inside and ceilings.
The wood shingles come in two types, shakes and shingles. Unlike the others, wood shakes are thicker and longer than wood shingles. The major difference between these two types of wood shingles lies in their production methods. The untreated wood shakes and shingles have always been known to encourage fire hazards; thus, been banned in some countries, and most of these places are usually urban areas where combustible building materials are responsible for a specific fire incidents known as conflagrations. Using wooden roof shingles has been in existence since time immemorial and can be traced to Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Again, almost all the houses in colonial Chiloé had had roof shingles.
The slate tiles (also called) the slate shingles are usually expensive, but have a longer life span; it can last up to 80-400 years depending on the slate’s quality in use. How you maintain this material determines how long it would last, and it can also be recycled. The major reason why slate tiles kind of roof fall is that the individual slates often lose their peg attachment, starting sliding out of place. The secondary means this slate can fail is when they begin to fail off. The slates may start to break loose from the lower angle, thus, creating gaps below the slate. Usually, the stressed portion above the may state failing off, thereby allowing those slates to slip. The worst-case scenario is that the slate may end up breaking up into half pieces.
The commonest way to repair a slate roof is by a method called ‘torching’: to carry out this procedure; a mortar fillet is placed under the slates while attaching it to battens. This method can also be used to repair the roof; it works by holding those slipping slates. Here in Chattanooga Roofing Company, we understand the technicalities behind each shingle roof and have all it takes to deliver nothing less than the best.
